Frequently Asked Questions

How are the garage doors delivered?

We have distribution warehouses located around the United States which have dedicated delivery trucks that serve their local region.

Can I customize the design of my garage door?

Yes, we offer customization options for many of our garage doors. You can choose from various panel designs, colors, window styles, and hardware options to create a door that matches your preferences and complements your home's aesthetics.

Do I need to have the windows at the top of the garage door?

Windows can be placed in any section of the door layout. For residential garage doors, we recommend window placement in the top or second to the top door section for the most natural lighting and security.

What would a different style door look like on my house?

Amarr has a great webpage where you can upload a picture of your home and then paste in an image of a new door to see how it would look on your house: https://www.amarr.com/us/en/design-your-garage-door.

Can garage doors be painted?

Doors can also be painted after installation. All Amarr steel doors are pre-painted with a factory-applied baked-on coating that is suitable for repainting. Amarr doors will accept a wide variety of commercially available latex exterior paints, when applied in accordance with the paint manufacturer's recommendations. Do not use oil-based paints. Painting of an Amarr steel door voids the Paint Finish Warranty.

What color is the interior of a steel garage door?

The interior of all single-, double- and triple-layer doors is white, regardless of the exterior color.

Why would I want an insulated garage door?

A garage door typically covers the largest opening on a home or commercial building. Insulated doors will help to reduce the transfer of heat or cold air into your garage. Here are some situations where an insulated door is especially important:

If your garage is attached to your home or business, hot or cold air in the garage can travel through the door to the heated or cooled areas in your home or business. An insulated garage door will reduce the transfer of air from the outside to the inside.

If you use your garage as a work space, comfort will be a top priority. An insulated garage door will help keep the temperature in the garage area within a narrower range as compared to the extreme range of outside temperatures.

If your garage is below another room in your building or home, air can travel through the ceiling of the garage area into the floor of the rooms above. An insulated door will keep temperatures in the garage area stable to reduce the temperature fluctuation in upper rooms.

An insulated garage door is generally quieter and has a more attractive interior than a non-insulated door.

How to measure for a garage door?

Do you offer special sizes?

Odd width steel doors can be produced to the next even inch.

Most odd heights for steel doors are available in 3" increments from the even foot. For example: 6’0”, 6’3”, 6’6”, 6,9”, 7’0”……

What is "Headroom Requirement" and how do I determine what I need?

Low Headroom Tracks require 9-1/2” of headroom for the door (+3” additional for opener rail)

12”R Tracks require 13” of headroom for the door (+3” additional for opener rail)

15”R Tracks require 16” of headroom for the door (+3” additional for opener rail)

If you have any additional questions about headroom requirements, please give us a call.

What if we need special tracks?

Please contact us with any special track requirements, such as full vertical-lift, high-lift or follow-the-roof-pitch track options.

Can I install the garage door and opener myself?

While some people with DIY experience may choose to install their garage doors, we highly recommend professional installation for optimal performance and safety. Improper installation can lead to issues with functionality and potential hazards.

Where can I find Installation Instructions to install my new garage door?

Downloadable instructions can be accessed via the QR code on the label of the hardware box that came with your door, or by going here.

Do I need to reinforce my garage door if I am installing my own electric garage door operator/opener?

When installing a drawbar type electric garage door opener, the top section of the garage door must be reinforced with a strut and/or angle iron spanning the length of the top section.

When I replace my existing garage door, can I keep my old tracks?

We recommend replacing your tracks when you replace your garage door because each brand of garage door has been specifically designed to work with a specific type of track. In addition, replacing your tracks is an inexpensive way to ensure that your entire garage door system is as safe as possible. By replacing your tracks, you also ensure that your garage door warranty will apply if you have a problem.
